Exciting First Week of Season

Christian Lariviere, #22 Leads the Pinehouse Lakers over the La Loche Lakers

There was an exciting start to the Northern Saskatchewan Football season with four games being played last week.  Kicking off the season on Wednesday, September 5, the Pinehouse Lakers traveled to La Loche to play in the Laker Bowl. Leading the Pinehouse team was Seth Sanderson with three touchdowns and Christian Lariviere with two touchdowns as they defeated La Loche by a score of 64-0.

On Thursday, a double header was played. In the first game, the defending champion Cumberland House Islanders travelled to Beauval to take on the Voyageurs. Drake Carriere, Jesse McKay and Kaydin Chaboyer each scored two touchdowns and Dwayne McKenzie kicked six converts to lead the visiting Islanders to a convincing 54-0 win. Over in Sandy Bay the hometown T-Wolves defeated the visiting Creighton Kodiaks by a score of 38-12. The game sheet was unavailable at press time.

On Friday, the Melfort Comets made their very first trip to northern Saskatchewan in 9-aside action. The hometown La Ronge Churchill Chargers put up a great fight, holding the Melfort squad scoreless until the very last play of the first half. Melfort scored another touchdown in the second half while Justin McKerracher from La Ronge responded with the Chargers only score by returning a missed field goal the length of the field. The final score in this exciting game was 14-6 for Melfort.

In the second week of play, a double header will start the week on Wednesday with Creighton playing La Loche at the Max Clunie Field in Prince Albert. This game will be under the lights with a 7:00 PM kickoff. meanwhile, Beauval will be travelling to La Loche. On Thursday, Sandy Bay travels to Cumberland House in a game featuring two unbeaten teams. in 9-aside action, the La Ronge Churchill Chargers will travel to Tisdale to play a Friday Night Lights game.
